Collection: South African Tisanes

South Africa is known for two types of tea (tisanes): Honeybush and Rooibos.

Honeybush tea comes from the bark of a bush. When the bark is picked it smells like honey, giving honeybush its name. Honeybush tea is not a tea but a tisane as Honeybush isn't made from the Camellia Sinesis plant (the tea plant).

Rooibos tea comes in two varieties: red rooibos and green rooibos. Red rooibos is the most commonly used of the varieties but the green rooibos is the most popular. Rooibos is not technically a tea and should be considered a tisane because it is caffeine-free. Rooibos is naturally sweet in both taste and aroma. We carry both varieties and have several blends with both and the green variety is offered by itself.
